Expert Irrigation
Oakland Park is split between two water providers. Most of the city is served by Oakland Park Public Works — the Water Division line is 954-630-4430. Part of the city is served by Broward County Water instead, at 954-831-3250. If you have ever been bounced between the two trying to sort out a billing or pressure question, that is the reason.
Why it matters for irrigation
Different suppliers mean different static pressure at the meter, and static pressure drives how a system should be built. Too little and the far zones underperform. Too much and you get misting at the heads — water atomized into the air instead of landing on the lawn — plus accelerated wear on valve diaphragms. We check static pressure as part of any diagnostic, because a system that was designed correctly for one pressure and is now running at another will show a set of symptoms that look like a dozen separate problems.
A mix of housing stock
Oakland Park runs from older mid-century single-family neighborhoods through to newer infill, and the irrigation reflects that range. The older sections have well-fed systems with the usual Broward signature — iron staining on concrete, calcium crusting on nozzles because well water never gets lime-softened, and pumps mounted outdoors, unshaded, running well past their expected life. Newer properties tend to have intact hardware and a controller that has never been reprogrammed since the day it was installed.
The seasonal pattern
About seventy percent of the rain here falls between mid-May and mid-October, which means summer storms cover for a system that is not actually working. The damage happens in summer — lightning taking out controllers and solenoids, roots closing in, valve diaphragms cooking in full-sun boxes — and shows up in November when the rain stops and the dead zones turn brown. If you have not looked at your system since spring, a check before dry season is cheaper than discovering three dead zones in December.

Broward County's countywide ordinance applies. Odd-numbered addresses water Wednesday and/or Saturday. Even-numbered addresses water Thursday and/or Sunday. No irrigation between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and no watering at all Monday, Tuesday or Friday.
