Sunrise publishes the clearest and strictest irrigation guidance of any city we work in, and it enforces it. If you live here it is worth knowing the details, because they go beyond the county baseline.
Friday is a dry day, and violations carry real fines
Sunrise designates Friday explicitly as a dry day — nobody waters, no exceptions by address. Fines of up to $250 may be assessed for violating the restrictions, enforced by both Sunrise Police and Code Enforcement. That is the highest published penalty we have found among the cities we serve. If your controller is still running an old schedule that includes Friday, that is worth fixing this week rather than next month.
New sod has its own rules here
Sunrise sets a separate schedule for newly installed landscaping, and it differs from the county version. For the first thirty days you may water any day except Friday. For days thirty-one through sixty, roughly every other day, still excluding Friday. All new-sod watering must happen before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. — a tighter window than the standard 10-to-4 prohibition. The zone has to be at least half new material to qualify. If you have just re-sodded, we will zone and program for that allowance rather than leaving you to guess.
What is exempt
Sunrise explicitly permits drip, bubbler and micro-jet systems that apply water directly to root zones at any time, along with watering cans. Water collected in cisterns and rain barrels may be used any time as well. That is a genuine planning opportunity — converting bed zones from spray to drip takes them out of the two-day restriction entirely and usually improves the plants at the same time.
A large, well-run utility
Sunrise Utilities serves over 215,000 customers across roughly seventy square miles with three water treatment plants and more than 770 miles of water main — and it also supplies Weston, Southwest Ranches and part of Davie. City water pressure here is generally good and consistent, which means static pressure regulation matters: unregulated pressure is hard on valve diaphragms and produces misting at the heads, which is water you pay for that never reaches the ground.
Your watering days
Odd-numbered addresses water Wednesday and Saturday. Even-numbered addresses water Thursday and Sunday. Permitted hours are midnight to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to midnight. Never Friday. To report a violation, the city line is 954-572-2344.
