Plantation runs its own utility — two membrane treatment plants drawing about thirteen million gallons a day from the Biscayne aquifer, each fed by eight raw water wells. It is one of the better-run small city systems in the county. But a lot of Plantation's residential irrigation never touches that treated water at all.
Well country
Plantation's pre-1980 single-family neighborhoods are shallow-well territory, and Plantation Acres in particular has the large lots and horse-property zoning that make a private irrigation well the only economic option. Those systems have a different service profile than city-water systems: iron staining on driveways and stucco, calcium crusting on nozzles because well water never sees the lime softening the plant applies, and pumps that lose prime during the March-through-May drawdown. If you are replacing valve diaphragms more than once every few years, the well is usually the cause and the valves are just the symptom.
Big lots, real coverage math
On an acre-plus Plantation Acres property, the two-day watering rule bites harder than it does on a quarter-acre lot. You have two windows a week, both outside 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to deliver a full week of water across a lot of square footage. That only works if the zoning is right — one head type and one precipitation rate per valve, head-to-head coverage, and enough zones that the well or the meter can actually supply each one. Systems that were expanded piecemeal over the years usually fail this test somewhere.

Plantation runs a water conservation rebate program in partnership with Broward County. The utility's conservation line is 954-513-3518. If we are recommending a smart controller or a high-efficiency nozzle conversion, it is worth a call before you buy — sometimes part of it comes back.
Your watering days
Plantation follows Broward County's countywide ordinance rather than a separate city schedule. Odd-numbered addresses water Wednesday and Saturday. Even-numbered addresses water Thursday and Sunday. Properties with no street address, or mixed odd and even addresses, use the even schedule. No irrigation between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The city's own guidance recommends midnight to 7 a.m. or 4 p.m. to midnight as the most effective windows.
